What is a grant?



Grant-giving funds (also known as 'charitable funds') give financial help in the form of a grant to people in need. Grants can be given as money, products or services that don't have to be paid back. Some charities also offer advice, information and support. To qualify for a grant, you will need to meet the eligibility rules of that fund.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR A GRANT?



Our charitable funds have:

  • Aims and objectives in our constitutions that clearly say who we support.
  • Specific qualifying rules (or eligibility criteria) that an individual has to meet in order to get help from that fund.

Each fund's qualifying rules will be specific to them. Our Funds are available for Non-EEA Immigrants, Migrants from EEA, UK National citizens who are not in receive of Benefits, those in urgent Financial Need, or Low income.

The conditions to get a grant from a fund might depend on things such as:

  • Having particular disabilities or illnesses- We actually prioritize people who were affected by the Covid-19, either sick or having a direct dependent having contracted the virus.
  • Been made redundant, out of work since the beginning of the pandemic.
  • Those who have saving lower than £2,000, destitute, student...

More criteria of eligibility are used when we process all applications.

When can I apply for a Grant



You need to submit your application two (2) months before the expiry date of your visa. All Grants available will have their deadline mentioned online.

How many time and how often can I apply for a Grant



Each fund's qualifying rules will be specific to them - For example, the Grant to help you with your visa is applicable once your Visa is expiring. You will have the choice within the Application to add the option to be considered for the IHS1 Grant and also for other Grant available. You could be awarded for all grants available. You can submit an application anytime for a Grant is published on our site and made available for everyone.

What information do I need to apply for a grant



To apply for a grant you will need the following, but the list is not exclusive as each grant has its own purpose therefore specific information might be required from you. When applying, it would be best to gather together the following:

  • Personal details like date of birth and address
  • Work history and proof of occupation
  • The reason you are applying for help
  • Details of your income: from employment to other sources of income.
  • Details of your savings, investments, and other capital. You may need to provide bank statements
  • Details of rent or mortgage payments
  • How much your annual Council Tax bill is and whether you get any help with it Detail of expenditure and more...

How quickly will the charitable fund reply



We try to reply as quickly as possible to applicants that are why all application to extend your Stay or help with the IHS Grant MUST be made at the latest 2 months before its expiry date. However, how long the grant application process takes depends on:

  • The resources we have available, in terms of staff and funding ​
  • Of the procedures, we use to assess your application
  • The number of caseworkers available to assess the applications and possibly make home visits.

Make sure you complete the application forms fully and provide as much information as possible to support your case. If details that we have asked you for are missing this may delay the process.

If I meet all the criteria will I get a grant



Not necessarily. This means that, based on the information you have given on your application, it can help us shortlist you. The fund thinks they may be able to help you. We will then move to next stage where we will assess your needs and eligibility for a grant in more detail.

If successful, how will my grant be paid



This will depend on the nature of the grant. You may be sent through the post if the Grant is a Food voucher or through a direct bank transfer using a system likes the Bankers Automated Clearing System (BACS) if the Grant is in money. Some funds won't pay the grant directly to the person requiring help but to directly to the organisation involved such as the Home Office or the Energy Company. The fund will advise you further on how your grant will be paid.

What if my application is refused



There is no 'entitlement' to charitable grants, which are given at the discretion of the Organisation based on fund availability and eligibility criteria. Our Organisation is not a Financial Institution, so we can't help everyone.


Unfortunately, your application to a fund may be refused. We should give you a reason when replying to you. This may be because

  • You don't meet the qualifying rules
  • The charity does not provide grants for the type of help you want
  • You have enough income and/or capital to be eligible for support
  • For some other reasons, that are specific to the charitable fund you have applied for

The charity may suggest other sources of help for you to try.

Unfortunately, in some cases, you may not qualify for help from any organisation listed on our sites.

Grants and Welfare Benefits



You will not be qualified for a grant if there are welfare benefits you could be claiming or you get. Our Grants are specifically designed for those who are not entitled to benefits, can not have access to public funds, and to those who meet our eligibility criteria.
